About Invisalign Treatment

Invisalign is a tooth straightening treatment that uses clear devices and gentle, gradual pressure to straighten your teeth. If you've seen ads for this alternative to braces, you may have wondered if it's right for you. Here's what you need to know.

What Is Invisalign?

Invisalign is an alternative to metal braces. It uses a series of clear, removable aligners to straighten your teeth. An Invisalign brace is a thin, flexible device that fits securely over your teeth.

Benefits of Invisalign

The main benefit of Invisalign is that it’s clear. Instead of metal on your teeth, you wear a clear device called an aligner. It is barely noticeable.  Invisalign is comfortable and easy to wear.  These aligners are also removable. You can take them out when you eat or socialize.

How Does It Work?

The process begins in your dentist’s office. Your dentist takes digital pictures of your teeth to create a 3D model of them. Your dentist sends this mold to the manufacturer, who creates a custom device fitted for your teeth.

You wear the first aligner for about two weeks. For the best results, you should wear it for 22 hours each day. After that, you switch to new aligners each week.   This continues until your teeth are straight.

Who Can Use It?

It is suitable for teens and adults. You can use it to correct bite problems, crooked teeth, and misaligned teeth.

How Long Does It Take to Work?

Every case is different, but you will start to see improvements in the first month. The time depends on how much correction you need and how often you wear your aligners.

A typical length of time for moderately crooked teeth is about six months. If you need more help, it may take up to a year.

Fortunately, the aligners are comfortable. Your dentist will regularly check your progress to ensure they are working.

Where Do You Get Invisalign?

Dentists who offer Invisalign have had special training. You can only get the treatment from these doctors. At Malan Family Dentistry, we can fit you for Invisalign devices.

Can You Eat or Drink Anything You Want While Getting Treatment?

Yes, you can. Because they’re removable, there are no restrictions on what you eat or drink while using the aligners. That’s another huge advantage over metal braces.

Can Other People Tell You’re Wearing Them?

These aligners are almost invisible. Most people won’t notice you’re wearing them, and you can remove them for special occasions.

How Do You Keep the Aligners Clean?

Brush them with a toothbrush and toothpaste, and rinse them in warm water. Don’t use hot water, which can damage the plastic.
